Severance Wrestling Shines at the CHSAA State Championships
The 2025 CHSAA State Wrestling Championships were nothing short of spectacular for the Severance Silver Knights. Both the boys and girls teams left their mark at Ball Arena in Denver, competing against the best-in-Class 4A and delivering outstanding performances. With two state champions, multiple state placers, and numerous wrestlers who showcased their heart and determination, the tournament was a resounding success for the program.
Let’s break down the action, from our champions to those who battled fiercely in the tournament.
🥇 State Champions: Crowning Glory
Severance crowned two state champions at the tournament, with both Drake Vombaur (113-4A) and Eila Schultz (G130-4A) dominating their brackets and standing atop the podium.

Drake VomBaur (113-4A)
Drake Vombaur’s road to gold was filled with dominant performances, proving why he was one of the most formidable competitors in the field.
Champ. Round 1 – He started strong with a fall (3:51) over Tate Colley (Thompson Valley), setting the tone for the tournament.
Quarterfinal – Vombaur overwhelmed Jt Martinez (Bear Creek) with an impressive tech fall (19-3, 4:17).
Semifinal – He continued his dominance, pinning Israel Trujillo (Pueblo County) in 3:29 to secure his spot in the state finals.
Finals – In a highly anticipated match, Vombaur took control and earned a hard-fought 4-1 decision over Manuel Amaro (Pueblo East) to claim his state title.

Eila Schultz (G130-4A)
On the girls’ side, Eila Schultz delivered an unmatched performance to claim her state championship, capping off an incredible season.
Champ. Round 1 – She opened with a lightning-fast pin in just 31 seconds over Emma Ford (Meeker Girls).
Quarterfinal – Schultz continued her pinning streak, taking down Bree Tyler (Las Animas Girls) in 2:44.
Semifinal – Another fall (2:49) over Santana Montez (Pueblo Central) sent Schultz into the state finals.
Finals – In a tense showdown, Schultz secured the championship with a narrow 1-0 decision over Alyssa Solis-Ornelas (Fort Lupton).
🥈🥉 State Placers
Severance had multiple state placers, each of whom battled through tough brackets to earn their spot on the podium.

🥈 Faith Vondy (G135-4A) – 2nd Place
Opened the tournament with a 1:11 pin over Alyshia Thomas (Calhan)
Edged out Olivia Herrera (Brush) 9-7 in the quarterfinals
Controlled the semifinals with an 11-6 win over Kenna Pino (Pueblo Central)
Fell just short in the championship match, losing 9-3 to Kate Doughty (Canon City).

🥉 Jaxon Felker (120-4A) – 6th Place
Started hot with a fall (4:37) over Gavyn McCasland (Canon City).
Ran into a buzzsaw in Isaiah Harrison (Mountain View), losing by tech fall.
Battled back with a tech fall (15-0) over Kenyon Stanley (Widefield).
Followed up with a major decision (9-0) over Breckan Palko (Mead High School).
Lost a tough match to Kash Long (Roosevelt) by decision 11-6.
Dropped the 5th place match to Aleq Countryman (Air Academy) in a 9-1 major decision.

🥉 Alisa Gonzales (G170-4A) – 5th Place
Pinned Madeline Staley (Custer County) in 1:05 to start strong.
Lost to Jzunie Jones (Mullen) by tech fall (18-0).
Stormed back with two pins: Alysa Jara (Lamar) in 0:29 and Drue Golob (Pueblo Central) in 2:57.
Lost in the consolation semis to Maile Manfre (Englewood) by fall (1:17).
Secured 5th place with a thrilling 6-3 sudden victory win over Carly Larsen (Strasburg).

Simon Carter (106-4A)
Lost to Alex Herburger (Pueblo East) by major decision (10-2).
Bounced back with a 38-second pin over Asher Montoya (Canon City).
Lost a heartbreaking 8-7 decision to Michael Montano (Pueblo South).
Dennis Campos (126-4A)
Dominated his first match with a 12-3 major decision over Elijah Martinez (Mead High School).
Ran into a tough opponent, falling to Julian Espinoza (Pueblo East) by tech fall (17-0).
Lost a close match (7-4) to Blaze Unpingco (Canon City) to end his tournament.
Reed Green (144-4A)
Started strong with a 4:32 pin over Ryder Evans (Niwot).
Fell to Chris LaLonde (Roosevelt) by fall (1:20).
Bounced back with a 58-second pin over Colton Cadell (Standley Lake).
Lost to Ty Eversman (Thompson Valley) by fall (1:45).
Jake Mitchell (165-4A)
Lost to Garet Hendrickson (Thompson Valley) by tech fall (18-2).
Dominated in the consolation round, winning by major decision (17-8) over Eli Quesada (Niwot).

Brody Vondy (215-4A)
Dropped a tight match to Connor Mann (Mountain View) 5-3.
Rebounded with a pin (2:45) over Vincenzo Mascia (Montrose).
Fell to Cayetano Cushing (Bear Creek) by fall (2:28).
Allison Wilson (G190-4A)
Lost her opener to Gese Sanchez (Yuma) by fall (0:29).
